Progression of Numbers

The Sutra “Ekadhikena Purvena” which means “One more than the previous one” helps us represent the numbers either in Linear Progression or in Cyclic Progression.

Representation of numbers in Linear Progression:

Representation of numbers in Cyclic Progression:

Did you notice anything unique in the above representations?

The numbers are represented as 1, 2, 3, 4, ……, 9, 10, 11, 12, and so on. When we cross 10 and represent 11, the last digit of 11 is same as the previous number in the branch, i.e. 1. This sequence goes on, i.e. all the numbers on any branch end with the same last digit and all the multiples of ten appear on the top branch.
